Heroes

In each of our lives, if we're lucky, we meet people who inspire us.  Here are two such people in my life, Karyn and Jane:

Karyn has been suffering from a liver disease for the past few years that has been getting steadily worse, to the point where she needed a transplant.  Jane, a friend from the cottage, volunteered to be tested to see if she was a match.  Good news, she was.

So today, Jane is donating about half of her liver to Karyn.  In about a year's time, Jane's remaining liver will have regenerated itself and be back to its normal size.  For Karyn, if her body accepts the transplant, it means getting back to a normal life with a functioning, healthy liver.

I admire both these ladies so much.  For their bravery and their friendship, their willingness to endure what needs to be done to make things better and for their good humour throughout it all.  Jane's generosity for a friend is truly inspiring.

Please add them both to your thoughts and prayers today, in the hope that all goes well and both will healthy and recovered as soon as possible.

Thanks Debi and everyone else for your good thoughts. We are told that both ladies are doing extremely well. Jane's liver was apparently bigger than expected so they both got healthy sized portions!

Wow! Cynthia,

Just read this on your blog.... I feel famous!!!!! Debi, we must have gotten all of your positive thoughts because 6 months later Jane and I are both leading totally normal lives. Within 6 weeks we both had full sized livers again... such a miracle.

Jane will always be my HERO.

Cynthia, thanks for all of your positive support.
