Planes and Airports

I'm thinking about planes and airports today.

Partly because today is one of the busiest travel days for March Break (so they said on the radio this morning) - they were expecting 100,000 people to cycle through Toronto Pearson Airport today on their way to a family vacation.  Some people are heading off to ski in the snowy West, some are flying south to warmer climates.

Partly because my boss' daughter flew off to China today on a school trip.  Can you imagine being 15 years old and heading off to some place as exotic as Beijing on your first solo trip without your parents? Pretty exciting stuff.  When I was in grade 12, I went on a school trip to Greece and Yugoslavia over March Break and the next year, to Spain and Morocco.  It was so much fun, I hope this girl has as good a time as we did back then.

Of course, it kind of makes me feel old to realize those trips I took happened more than 30 years ago.  I'm not quite ready for a rocking chair but if I was, I know where to find one - here in the central terminal at the Sea-Tac airport in Seattle.  They have a bunch of them right by the window so you can sit and watch the planes cruise in and out.  What a great idea!

An Email From Mr. Tang

I got an email today that said this:  "I am Mr Joseph Tang, I Need You For An Urgent Business transaction. Awaiting your response to this email. Thanks."

You gotta wonder where these emails come from, who writes them and what they are looking for.  Does the sender really think I'm going to write back and say, "Oh yes, Mr. Tang, what can I do to help you?"  I should do that, just to see what happens next but I suspect it will be something along the lines of, I'd like to deposit thousands of dollars into your bank account if you'll just provide me with the appropriate information.

I Googled the name Joseph Tang and as you might image, there were lots of pictures of men by that name.  I like this one the best:

Because of course, that's where the email went.  Right into the garbage can, possibly to be eaten by Oscar the Grouch. :)

What's Your Hourly Rate?

My sister won $800 on a radio contest today.  They picked her name, announced over the air at 9 a.m. and she had 20 minutes to call in.  She did it with 17 minutes to spare, since she was already listening for her name and had the number written on a post-it by the phone.  By doing so, she earned $100 ah hour for an eight hour work day.

Tomorrow morning, they're going to call somebody else's name at 9 a.m. If that person doesn't call in within the 20 minutes window, Janine will win another $800.  And so on, every day until another person hears their name and calls in.  The guy before her won $2400 that way.

Pretty exciting stuff, eh?!

The Latest Kitten Caper

Now that Belle Matisse and Belle Cherie are older (they are 10 months old now, so hard to believe!),  they are larger and taller.  Taller means tall enough to stretch up and look inside the waste paper basket, but not quite big enough to jump inside without knocking it over.  But still small inside to crawl inside.

Don't believe me? I have proof.
Look, I can fit inside!

Look, I can fit too!

Are we going to have to clean this up?

Hmm, wonder how this paper will taste?
Maybe just a little bite...

When is it going to be my turn again?

Who me? I'm just lying here looking cute...

Extra points in a kitten caper if you can get one of the older cats to play along.  Here's Matisse trying to convince Maggie to get involved (she didn't):
Come on, it'll be fun, just go inside!

March Play Date

As I typed that title, I'm struck by how fast this year is going - can't believe it's March already! Still felt like winter as I parked my car on the remains of a snowbank on my way to Bizzy B for my monthly play date with Kelly, Laura and Barb.

The full 12 month selection of the Graphics 45 calendar pages are now in stock so I spent the afternoon catching up on my February calendar page.  When I came home, I added text to the little boxes with small alphabet stamps, based on notes I had kept on post-its during the month!

I had missed Bizzy B's second hand sale last weekend (where customers can sell their excess art supplies) but luckily for me, Deneen came in to pick up her stuff and let me look at what she was taking home.  I immediately grabbed this storage container - at only $5.00, I couldn't resist it! The cool thing is that each little box is removable, I can arrange it any way I want, although I like the way it is shaped right now.  It's a little dusty, I figure I'll put it in the dishwasher for a quick clean and after that, I can't wait to fill it up with little bits of goodness!

Seattle in Neon

As you may recall from this blog post during my trip to Seattle last year, one of the things I love about that city is all the vintage neon signs.  I found a few more on this trip:

Words To Live By

Teesha and Tracy Moore have this plaque hanging in their guest bathroom.  I found it to be quite inspiring but it was one tall sign that was too hard to read as a single photograph, I had to break it up into bite-size pieces.
