Haiku My Heart Friday: A Chill in the Air

The air grows colder
Birds gather to plan their exit
Winter is coming.

There was a different feel to the chilly air today, an ominous portent of the season that is coming. The fall has so many wonderful qualities but I must admit that I would enjoy autumn so much more if I didn't know what was going to follow it.  As it's not even halfway through September, I can only hope that the warm weather has not quite left us yet, that this spell of unseasonably cool, wet weather in our immediate forecast will soon be replaced by warmer temperatures before we must pack away the lighter clothing and open-toed shoes for good.

The older I get, the more I'd like to be able to fly south for the winter as many of our feathered friends do!

Love, love, love this haiku, Cyn. The imagery of the meeting of the birds evokes the idea of serious activity soon. Our September has heated up again after several cool days. Indian summer, indeed. Fall will be here soon and there will be no hint of heat again for some time. I pray for rain this winter. We desperately need it.

Wonderful haiku for Autumn ~ I try living in the now more and more and to find the good and not so good in all the seasons ~ Believe me, sometimes it is real difficult!

Your haiku says so much in those seventeen syllables... When ever I see the birds lined up on the wires like that it makes me think of musical notes. Great photo to go with your potent haiku! I hope September gives you some warmth to hold you over in the months to come...

Bless the birds for knowing when to stay and when to go!

How I wish the air in the desert would grow colder! Today the temperature is supposed to hit a sizzling 106 degrees!

i love your haiku and understand completely your resistance to the deep freeze of winter.
perhaps a jaunt to mexico will sweeten the deal!
