Photographing the Torch

I tried to take photos the other night at lampwork class as Dwyn was demonstrating a technique called fuming. The idea is that you hold a small piece of gold or silver at one end of the flame and the bead at the other end, and the flume resulting from the melting of the metal is carried by the flame to the bead and causes it to change colour.

I wanted to take a picture, because it looked really cool with the specks of metal flying through the flame, almost like a little mini meteor shower, but it just didn't show up in the photos. I did get some rather interesting shapes and colours which are funky all on their own but not very helpful for demonstrating the technique itself. Oh well, c'est la vie!

fuming is a great way to color your glass..... make sure you have good air vents ... you don't want to breath that stuff in to much.
