An Awesome Postcard

National Letter Writing Month may be over but lucky for me, lovely letters keep arriving in my mailbox. Today I discovered this amazing postcard from Debi in California:

Isn't it wonderful? She Zentangled the letters of my name - so clever, I love it!

Journal Junkies May 2014

The themes for this month's gathering were (a) accessories or (b) the sun. The optional supply item was metal embellishments. I chose to go with option (b), using this Victor Hugo quote from his book, Les Miserables: "Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise."

I used random papers for the background, covered in Payne's gray and just a little bit of bone black paint. The sun was made with a stencil and modelling paste, then painted and embellished with brass washers.

Happy Mother's Day 2014

Happy Mother's Day to all who are celebrating today, those who are mothers or who ever had one. :)

Here's a card I made for my mom, using one of the techniques I learned in the online watercolour class I'm taking:

Enjoy your day!

Aberfoyle - Spring 2014

Today was the first outdoor antique market of the 2014 season. Luckily, the forecast had changed as the weekend approached and the rain predictions faded away. It was quite breezy which meant it was a tad cool but that's not necessarily a bad thing when you're spending several hours outdoors in the sun.

I debated about going today. My friend Barb, who usually accompanies me on these excursions, wasn't available today and I had other things I could be doing with my time but when I woke up this morning and the sun was shining, I decided to hop in the car and head on over, if only to take a few photos and enjoy being outside after a long, cold winter stuck indoors.

As always, lots of cool stuff to see. Here are a few examples:

A bevy of buttons
My friend Kate says there's a jaguar at every outdoor
flea market/antique sale. This is the largest one I have seen!

I felt as tired as this dog looks by the end of about three hours but it was a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning. I picked up a few treasures, I'll post some photos later this week.

In Honour of Audrey

Had a playdate this past Sunday afternoon at Bizzy B. While I was there, I noticed the Google doodle featured that day
and read that it would have been Audrey Hepburn's 85th birthday. That inspired me to make this journal page, featuring a quote from the lovely lady herself.

Renovations Begin

Little bit of excitement here in my apartment building today, as the hallway renovations begin on my floor. They started pulling up the carpet at 8 a.m. this morning, much to the alarm of my furry companions, who immediately dashed under the bed, convinced the world was coming to an end.
When I left for work, the workmen were busy pulling off the edging strips.
By the time I got home tonight, the entire hallway was stripped of carpet.
Only the glue patterns remain.
Noises in the hall sound really loud now, there's nothing to muffle the sound any more.

The cats are still a bit skittish.  Hopefully they'll adjust to the commotion, as I expect the project will take a while to be completed.  There's drywall to come (to cover that hideous wallpaper) and then paint and ultimately, new carpet.  Stay tuned!
