Haiku My Heart: Longing for Spring

Winter continues,
with no end in sight, frozen
hearts long for spring warmth.

Farewell, February 2014.  I for one will not miss you.  When the steam is rising off the pavement in those hot, scorching days of July, I always tell people, "these are the days I dream about in February". Only this year, I have had to dig deep to remember those sunny, blissfully hot and/or humid days.

Spring, the prelude to summer, is only weeks away, according to the calendar.  The end to this coldest winter in 20 years is almost in sight and yet still seems much too far away.  Forecasters predict the cold will continue into March, words which chill me to the bone almost as much as the wind itself.

The brown-eyed Susans in my photo above are a summer flower but you will forgive me when I say, I just don't care - give me a flower, any flower, one that is eager to break through the still frozen ground, unfold its tender petals and turn its face toward the sun.  That flower germinates in my heart right now, waiting impatiently for its turn to bloom.

Waiting...longing...counting...the...days...

You will find more haiku here at Haiku My Heart Fridays, hosted by Rebecca.

We all seem to be waiting, waiting. Even here in FL, where it is supposed to be sub-tropical paradise, it is cold again. We must have displeased Mother Nature in some way. I hope she will forgive us and bring us some warm, gentle Spring breezes soon.

I say post flowers everywhere, send whispers of spring wherever you can, and we will join you in the desired longing for warm days. Sometimes... I wish I were a bird and could sprout wings and fly south...
